Facts about Antonia N. Folio:

Antonia Nicole Folio will reign as Regina Maria XLV of the West Virginia Italian Festival.

Antonia is the daughter of Dr. Joseph Michael Folio and Nicole Ann Folio. Her mother was the 2016 Honorary Italian Woman of the Year.

Antonia’s  maternal grandparents are George and Jeanene Vincent  of Bridgeport and the late Tad Holipski.  Her paternal grandparents are the late Joseph and Dorothy Fragmin Folio.  Three of Antonia‘s great grandparents were immigrants. Antonias Italian heritage is from the regions of Calabria and Sardinia Italy.

Antonia just completed her third year of nursing school at West Virginia University. She is a member of the student nursing association and takes part in the peer mentoring program. The program works to instill motivation and confidence in first year nursing students. Antonia works part time as a clinical associate in the surgical intensive care unit at Ruby Memorial Hospital.  Following graduation Antonia plans to work in the surgical ICU. Her long-term plans are to attend nurse anesthetist school.

She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.  Within  Kappa Antonia has taken part in numerous philanthropy events such as -Hoops for Hope which benefits of Norman Mae Huggins Research Endowment, Kappa Bouquets and Kappa Cakes, which both support the National Eating Disorder Association, Kappa Cornhole which supports the JEDS foundation, and the Golden key luncheon, which supports the Kappa Kappa Gamma foundation.

Antonia has attended every festival since she was born. She was a member of the Minor and Junior court,  danced with the Romana Rose festival dancers,  participated in the Florence Chico Cann choir.  She has served as a banner carrier and Eucharistic minister for several festival masses. Last year her family placed second in the pasta cook off, entering her Nonnie Folio‘s red sauce recipe.

She and her family look forward to the festival every Labor Day weekend. It is a time for family to come together, dance in the streets, eat the delicious food while watching the performers on the stage and participate in Catholic mass. It is a time to celebrate our heritage.
