Each year the library receives a portion of its funding from people in the local community who want to ensure that the library is able to continue to provide outstanding programs for children, great books, up-to-date computers and internet access, fun and educational programs, literacy outreach, and much more.  Some choose to support the library’s ongoing needs, others donate to a specific project.  Monetary contributions to the library can be made through the Clarkburg-Harrison Public Library Foundation.  The Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization and your contribution is tax deductible.

Here are some ways you can help ...

Bequests –

Planned gifts are an important part of the library’s funding.   If you’d like to consider supporting the library in this way, the Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library Foundation was created to make tax-deductible donation as easy as possible and one of the Foundation's board members would be happy to discuss planned giving with you.  Gifts from past donors who have created endowments for the library continue to provide significant support for the purchase of books and materials, upkeep and improvement of library facilities and library programs.  This is a way to ensure that your gift continues to support the library well into the future.  You can support a specific library service or make an unrestricted gift.   Please stop in the library or contact us at foundation.chpl@clark.lib.wv.us for more information.

Donate a new book to the Library -

If you would like to acknowledge someone special by donating an amount to cover the cost of adding a book to the library in their honor, please contact us.  Many people are familiar with books that are donated in memory of a loved one but providing funds for the purchase of a new library book can also be a way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion.  You choose the size of your gift and we will purchase an appropriate book based on your donation information.  You can indicate your preference for a book to be placed in a specific collection – large print, children’s, fiction or non-fiction collections – or allow the library to select a book based on need.   For more information call us or send an email to director.chpl@clark.lib.wv.us.

Donate something from our wish list –

The library keeps a wish list of equipment and other items that we need but that don't fit into the regular library budget.  In some cases, we can use items that have been gently used.  If you or someone you know happens to be preparing for a move or doing some spring cleaning, please check our wish list.  If there’s something we’re looking for that you happen to have, it leaves more money in our budget for buying books.  Or if you see something on our wish list that you’d like to help the library purchase, contact us.  We’d be happy to talk with you about sponsoring a wish list purchase.

Support a special project -

From time to time the library has needs that require a level of funding that doesn’t fit the library’s regular operating budget.  When that happens, we have to turn to the community for help.  As we plan projects, they will appear on the website along with information about how you can help.

Will I be recognized?

We would love to include your name in our list of donors.  Recognition is optional and you can let us know at the time of your donation how you would like to be recognized.  Monetary donations are recognized in these categories – Under $500, $500 - $2,499, $2500 - $10,000, and over $10,000.  Businesses or corporations that would like to give a larger gift will be recognized in a separate category.  Monetary donations that fund the purchase of library books will be recognized with a bookplate inside the book as requested on the gift form.

Can I contribute my time?

Definitely!  The library has great volunteers and we can always use more.  There are so many ways to volunteer your time at the library that we created a separate page about that.  Click here for more information about becoming a library volunteer.

What about donating my used books to the library?

The library is happy to receive your donations of used materials.  We accept books, audiobooks on CD, and DVDs.  We typically can’t use encyclopedia sets, textbooks, cassette or VHS tapes, or magazines.  Not all donated items are added to the library’s collection but most donated items can be beneficial to the library in some way.  Our Friends of the Library hold regular book sales and they rely on your donations to keep a supply of good, gently-used materials to offer for sale.  Items in poor condition aren’t added to the library or to the book sale supply.  Sometimes books and other materials are in such bad condition that they can no longer be used and its okay to throw them away.  If you have questions about whether or not the library can use the items you have to donate, call us.  Julia Todd or Jill Rafter would be happy to help you.

Don’t my taxes support the library?

The Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library receives funding from state, county and local governments to support services and programs.  Your tax dollars at each of these levels support the library and we are grateful for the continuing support we receive.  Having that secure base of support allows us to effectively plan for library services for Clarksburg and other parts of Harrison County.  Please see our library funding page for a specific breakdown of where our funding comes from and how it is used.  The donation opportunities on this page are meant to supplement tax-based funding and will enable us to provide our community with the best library services and resources possible.  If you have ideas for ways to support the library that don't appear on this page, please get in touch with us and let us know how you'd like to contribute.
