Join us at the Salem Library for a special presentation of History Alive! brought to you by the WV Humanities Counsel!

This event begins at 5:30 PM and is about 30 - 45 minutes long in the Salem Library (former Salem Armory).

Minnie Reed

Mary Dailey as a composite character, seated with brown hair and brown eyes singing, wearing a flowery blue smock and pink shirt with white stripes, with hands crossedMinnie Reed’s character is drawn from the lives and songs of 20th century West Virginia folk singers Maggie Hammons Parker, Sarah Workman, Phyllis Marks and Kate Toney. For these women and their small mountain communities, music was a part of everyday life, and the songs they sang were passed down from generation to generation. Old ballads, logging history, living off the land, camp revival meetings, Irish ancestry and humor, and more are all part of Minnie’s story, set within her fictional home in Pocahontas County in 1972.
